New Six-Figure Ad Highlights Astounding Potential of Clean Energy To Meet All Of Our Needs
TV and online ads highlight solar energy in particular as a path to a clean future
SACRAMENTO — Net-Zero California has launched a new, six-figure ad campaign centered around one powerful fact: Just 10 seconds of sunlight can power everything on Earth for a day. The ads will be shown across California during news and TV shows and across multiple digital channels, including Hulu, Meta, Roku, and YouTube.
“Clean Energy Can Set Us Free” shows viewers the breadth of activities from every part of society that could be powered by clean energy: from transportation to factories to hospitals. The video ends with a resounding message: “Ten seconds of sun, for all that we’re capable of. Let’s make every second count.” The ads began airing as geopolitical instability continues to raise concerns about impacts to oil prices around the world. Meanwhile locally produced clean energy remains protected from price volatility.
“Clean energy is now far and away the cheapest energy source to add to the electric grid,” said Joe Caves, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Net-Zero California. “California has made incredible progress in cleaning up its energy supply, but there’s so much more we still need to do. We want to show people the potential we have to move completely off of expensive and polluting fossil fuels and on to cleaner sources.”
No other state is breaking clean energy records like California. In 2025, California ran its grid on 100% clean energy for part of the day for over 200 days, and these completely clean periods now often last hours at a time. Overall, renewables like wind and solar met more than 52% of demand in 2024. These records have been broken because of the state's rapid expansion of clean energy resources: in February 2026, solar made up more than 65% of the total energy on the grid.
Still, significant investments must be made for the state to achieve the ambitious goal under SB 100 of a grid powered 100% by zero-carbon sources by 2045. “The task in front of us is significant, but definitely achievable,” said Caves. “The technology we need is here today and Californians are strongly supportive of cheaper, cleaner energy. We just need to fully commit to the path and give it everything we’ve got.”
Caves referenced 2025 polling that shows 78% of California voters support California investing in clean energy to lower costs for consumers. The video ads launched on March 2 and are supported by digital ads in leading political newsletters and social media posts.
